Functional Medicine

What is it?

Functional Medicine is a field of medicine that seeks to treat cancer and chronic diseases through a “root cause” approach rather than a “symptom management” approach.  The practice uses specific biomarkers to identify what changes are needed in a person’s biochemistry so that the body can be put in a position to heal on its own and functional optimally. For more information on functional medicine, see the Institute of Functional Medicine (https://www.ifm.org/).

Marine Organisms and Disease Healing

The marine environment is the most biologically diverse place on earth. Many organisms have adapted to different environments and as a result, they have unique biological properties which have resulted in healing properties that are unmatched in the terrestrial environment.  For more information, see the Harte Research Institute (HRI) for Gulf of Mexico Studies, TAMUCC website (https://www.harteresearchinstitute.org/) and “Marine Drugs – Open Access Journal” (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/marinedrugs).
